Another module my class completed in the first term was the Health and Hygiene module. This class was also taught by Mr. O'Conner. It was an educational module all about health and safety in our day to day lives. We learned about hazards, and preventing injury and useful information such has how to properly lift heavy objects. One of the days each student was challenged to lift a heavy bag of clay across the classroom so that we could learn the correct way to do it. I think that this module was really helpful as it covered information that is really helpful in our lives but that wouldn't be taught in normal school. I think the class was very informative and I learned a lot about how to do things in the safest way possible.

For the first six weeks of term my class got to take part in a pottery module. It was taught by one of the art teachers in the school, Mr. O'Conner. I wasn't sure if I would like this module or not because I have never really done anything to do with art before.
In the class we got to make different things out of clay. We were taught how to properly roll, cut and shape the clay into what we wanted to make. Over the six weeks I made a nameplate and a monster out of the clay. After we were finished making what we wanted, the clay had to be given time to dry. Once it was dry the pieces were placed in an oven at an extremely high temperature. After the were fired, we got to glaze the clay in the colours we wanted. The pieces were placed in the oven one more time and then they were finished. I really enjoyed the pottery module because it was something completely different and new to me. I learned that it isn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. I had so much fun making my different pieces and it was a really nice break from normal school. The first module that my class got to experience in TY was the Public Speaking module. We had the class twice a week for 6 weeks. It was taught by a teacher named Mr.Wall. The aim of the module was to improve speech writing skills, to improve speech delivery and to also improve confidence in speaking in public. I liked the idea of this module because I am interested in English and wanted to gain more skills for speaking in front of people, as it is something that everybody will have to do at some stage. We learned about different techniques for speech writing and watched some examples of famous speeches in class. We then had to choose a topic and write our own speech on it. I chose the topic of education. We spent the rest of the classes writing and improving our speeches, and preparing a PowerPoint to go with it. We wrote out points on flash cards and then practised delivering our speech in front of each other. I was apprehensive before I went in but the examiner was very nice and made me feel more comfortable. After I presented the speech, the examiner asked me a few questions about my speech. At the end of the module we had to present our speech and PowerPoint in front of an examiner. Everyone was quite nervous before the exam as no one had done anything like it before. However the exam went well for everybody and everyone became more confident afterwards. This module has taught me how to properly write a speech, how to deliver a speech and has made me more comfortable with speaking in public. My whole class really enjoyed the module and got a lot out of it. - A quote I included in my speech.
